As the inaugural Professor of Geriatric Medicine at UWA, Leon Flicker's position is testament to the fact that the aging population is of growing concern to Australia.
But according to the Professor, growing old is not an automatic ticket to infirmary and dependence. Instead it can be an opportunity for growth and development.
This broad research area ranges from studies into the function and biology of the vascular system and the neuroscience and risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease to research into the effects of exercise on hypertension, obesity and bone and joint disease.
